NCsoft and ArenaNet announced on February 26, 2008 that their major title Guild Wars has sold 5 million units in North America, Europe and Asia, which is really an exciting news. But in March, several operators announced to stop servicing Guild Wars in their respective territories.

On March 16, the Chinese operator of Guild Wars Gold The9 announced to stop the service of Guild Wars Gold in mainland China. Following that, the Taiwan-based NCT announced to stop servicing Guild Wars in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. NCT announced that starting from April 1st, 2008 local time, it will stop providing services relating to Guild Wars and won't take account application any more. And the official site will be shut down on June 3rd, 2008 local time.

Guild Wars players in these territories are very sad. Some players said they will bring playmates together and take photos in game to memorize their friendship and experience in Guild Wars.
